Mark Chang

Founder & CEO, JobStreet.com

Mark Chang is an Executive Director and Founder of JobStreet.com. He has also been its Chief Executive Officer since its inception. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas, Austin, USA in 1988 and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA in 1990.

Prior to founding MOL Online Sdn Bhd in 1995 and subsequently JobStreet.com in 1997, Mark was with Kendall International, a US healthcare company, for six years, starting as a process engineer in 1990 before being promoted to manufacturing manager in 1992 and regional director of sales and marketing for Malaysia in 1994. He left Kendall International in 1996 to establish JobStreet.com. Under his direction, the JobStreet Group has expanded regionally.

Ganesh Kumar Bangah

President & CEO, MOL AccessPortal Berhad & Friendster Inc.

Ganesh Kumar Bangah is the Co-Founder, President & CEO of MOL AccessPortal Berhad (MOL). He built MOL from scratch to become one of the biggest online payment service providers in Asia with an annual revenue of RM320Million. MOL today has over 500,000 physical payment channels across 75 countries worldwide and handles over 5,000,000 transactions a month.

Ganesh was certified by the Malaysia Book of Records as the youngest CEO of a public listed company in Malaysia when he listed MOL AccessPortal Berhad on the MESDAQ Market of Bursa Malaysia at the age of 23. MOL AccessPortal Berhad was subsequently privatized in February 2008 to further grow the company to become a regional player.

In late 2009 MOL also bought Friendster, one of the leading global social networking sites and the biggest in Malaysia. With the acquisition, Ganesh was made CEO and has formed a new Malaysian team to lead Friendster. With the acquisition, Ganesh is one of the few Malaysians who can claim to be CEO of a truly global Internet company.

Ganesh was a top nominee for the Ernst & Young Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year – Malaysia 2004 & 2007 awards, Winner of JCI 2009 Creative Young Entrepreneur Award, recipient of the PIKOM Technopreneur Excellence Award at the ICT Leadership Awards 2009 and is acknowledged by Society Magazine as one of the 100 people you must know in Asia. Ganesh has been recognized as a Key Industry Leader by the National ICT Association of Malayisa (PIKOM); is a PIKOM Councillor, Chairman of the Export Promotion Committee of PIKOM and Chairman of the PIKOM Southern Chapter.

Bob Chua

CEO & Executive Chairman, Pulse Group PLC

At 17, Bob ran a multi-million dollar offshore catering business for his mother who was then indisposed and engineered a mini-empire at university that recruited fellow students to provide low cost overseas call-rates to other undergraduates.

Originally from Malaysia, Bob was raised in the UK and Australia, and has lived and worked across Europe, US and the Asia Pacific region for most of his career.

Prior to founding Pulse Group, Bob was involved in the establishment of TNS Interactive, Nielsen Online, and his own technology business BiO.XS Solutions.

He went to University in Australia and has a Bachelor of Bus. IT, and Marketing from Griffith Business School, Australia.

Driven by his motto, “make it happen”, Bob chartered a vertical path through several international market research firms before coming out on his own to form Pulse Group PLC, which is now a globally recognized and a Publicly traded online market research and intelligence agency with clientele in the US, Asia and Europe. At the forefront of the online market intelligence revolution, Pulse provides a full spectrum of digital market research services including online data-collection, survey solutions and vital back-end support to market research and media industry giants. Pulse has received numerous prestigious awards including being named Deloitte’s Fast 500 Asia-Pacific Technology Companies amongst others. .

Bob was also personally honoured with the prestigious ‘Ernst & Young Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year’ Award 2008.

Richard Tan

Founder & CEO, Lelong.my

Richard is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Interbase Resources Sdn. Bhd, which operates www.lelong.my, Malaysia’s largest online auction portal and www.SuperBuy.my, an online fixed price e-commerce mall.

A Chartered Accountant by training, Richard started his career with Arthur Andersen, Singapore.  He then moved on to AMP Manufacturing Inc. before entering the software industry as the Regional Finance & Business Development Director for System Software Associates Inc (SSA) in Singapore. He played a key role in expanding SSA’s operations in Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia and later set up SSA China as one of the first few 100% foreign owned software company in China in 1991. He later moved on to become Managing Director of SSA Malaysia in 1994. From 1995, Richard was the Managing Director and Shareholder of JBA Asia Sdn Bhd, an international ERP provider until 1999 when it was sold to JBA UK PLC.

In 1999, Richard co-founded www.autoworld.com.my and www.lelong.com.my.  Autoworld is the pioneer in automotive portal and it was the largest auto portal in Malaysia until it was sold to Hong Leong Group. Lelong is the pioneer for online auction in Malaysia.

Richard holds a First Class Honours degree in Commerce and Administration from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants New Zealand and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.

Afzal Abdul Rahim

CEO, Time dotCom Berhad

Afzal was appointed as Director & CEOof TIME dotCom Berhad on 7 October 2008. He served as the CEO of The AIMS Asia Group and Global Transit International prior to joining TIME dotCom. He is also the Chairman of Communications and Multimedia Licensee Associate and founded the Malaysia Internet Exchange (MyIX) in 2006.
He holds a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Electronics, specialising in Acoustic Wave Theory from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom.

When he joined this Bursa Malaysia listed company as CEO he had a major challenge of turning around a company with a share price worth less than 10% of its IPO price in 2000. However, since becoming the CEO of TdC in Oct 2008, he has turned around the company and set it on a new direction of growth. Significantly, the company has had seven straight quarters of profits against the backdrop of his 2-year-old turnaround plan.

Afzal started his career as Chassis Development Engineer of Proton Berhad in 1997, and then move on to be a Business Development Manager/Proton Client Manager of Group Lotus PLC until year 2000. He then became CEO of Applied Information Management Services (AIMS), which in November 2010 was among the three companies to be acquired by TdC for RM339 million.

A Technopreneur at heart, this similar mindset applies to his leadership strategy, whether he runs a huge government-linked company or a small technology enterprise. A few of his tips include focus, working in teams, and having a clear product offering.

Dr. Sanjay Woodhull

Dr Sanjay graduated from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India in 1992. During his specialised Paediatric training in Hospital Kuala Lumpur, he was awarded the excellent service award by the Ministry of Health in 1995.

He completed his postgraduate in Paediatrics in the United Kingdom after which he continued to specialise in the care of new born and premature babies in London (1998), for a year. Upon his return to Kuala Lumpur, he served as a lecturer and clinical specialist in Pediatrics at Hospital Kuala Lumpur and the National Heart Institute (IJN).
In 2000, Dr Sanjay pursued his interest in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine in Hospital Kuala Lumpur and completed his training at KK Womens and Childrens Hospital, Singapore in 2006.  He has acquired special interests in Paediatric Bronchoscopy and Paediatric Sleep Medicine.  He was also instrumental in developing and running the Paediatric Sleep laboratory in his current place of practice.  He was awarded clinical fellowship from the College of Chest Physicians (US) in 2007.

Dr Sanjay currently serves in the International advisory board for 8th International Pediatric Pulmonology Congress. He remains an active member in the European Respiratory Society, American College of Chest Physicians, Malaysian Pediatric Association and the Perinatal Society of Malaysia. He has been invited to speak in meetings and presented research papers in conferences both locally and internationally on numerous occasions.

His investment interests are in the field of hospital and medical information systems and he is an active investor in a medical software company based in Malaysia.

Presently Dr Sanjay is a practising Consultant Paediatrician based in the Klang Valley.

Ross Settles,

Fellow, Knight Foundation, USA

Ross Settles is a Knight International Journalism Fellow leading a project in Malaysia to integrate citizen journalists into the country’s leading independent news site.
Ross managed the online business operations for Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post. Prior to SCMP, he directed marketing and business development efforts for Knight Ridder Digital, the online subsidiary of what was once the second largest U.S. newspaper publisher. During his tenure at Knight Ridder, Ross led efforts to invest in and implement strategies using new online technologies: social networking (Tribe Networks), vertical search (ShopLocal), news search and aggregation (Topix). Ross worked closely with local news and business operations to develop new business and distribution models for these new investments.

Before Knight Ridder, Ross led marketing and international development efforts for technology media company Red Herring Communications. Ross began his work in the newspaper industry at Times Mirror; he ran marketing for The Baltimore Sun and led product development for Times Mirror’s online subsidiary.

Ross joined Times Mirror after serving as publisher of the Open Society Institute-funded Open Media Research Institute (OMRI) in Prague. In this position, he oversaw commercial operations for this provider of independent reporting and analysis of developments in Central Europe, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.

Ross has spent a decade working and studying in China and East Asia. He speaks, reads and writes Mandarin Chinese. Ross holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian studies from Princeton University.

Suresh Chandran

Director of Marketing, Danish MNC

Suresh is the Director of Marketing for a Danish multinational company that is the global leader in industrial biotechnology.

As Head of a MNC business unit, he is involved in numerous projects around the areas of strategy direction, global go-to-market strategies, channel analysis & selection, ideations, pipeline development, PLC management and has worked on large scale 2nd generation biomass to ethanol strategies and partnerships in US, Europe and China. He also headed a business unit with turnover of USD 70 million with P&L responsibility and overseeing sales, marketing and technical areas.

Prior to that he was the Malaysian country manager for a regional automation company and grew the business from zero to a multi-million revenue company in just 8 years.

He has extensive international experience having worked in Denmark and China and travelled extensively throughout USA, Western Europe and the Asia Pacific region on business.

Suresh was also a dotcom Entrepreneur and the Founder of an e-Education startup in 1999. His venture was ahead of its time and although he closed it down during the dotcom bust, his love of entrepreneurship remains a burning passion and he is now an active investor in local and international startups in the Internet, Healthcare and Biotech space.

Suresh has an MBA from Victoria University, Australia and his hobbies include buying old properties, renovating and then re-selling (hopefully at a profit) and sports with his two football crazy sons.
